The Center of my Heart

Oh don't go far from the center of my heart.

Right in the center of my being, the most intimate part.

I may sometimes sing for another

Who do I write these poems for?
The man without a name.
Will I ever know who you are?
Will you give me a sign?
Will you add music to my rhyme?

I wonder who you are.
Are you near or far?
Are your eyes blue brown or green?
Are you always nice or sometimes mean?

Are you what you appear
Or more than can be seen?
Are you serious, sarcastic, or funny?
Are you clever, witty, or punny?

Are you quiet or loud?
Are you short or tall?
Can you give me any clue at all?

Come on give me a sign in the sky.
Write your name in the cloud
So I'll know the answer to the why
And can scream real loud.

Don't give up waiting for me.
I'm waiting for you
Just like my neighbor waits in the afternoon
I'll be seeing you someday soon.

A Love that Is Willing to Lose

What's behind that twinkle in his eye?
Is there truth,Or a lie?
Are you really my friend?
Will you be there in the end?

Love isn't based on what you can do for me.
No, it shouldn't be.
Love says, "I'll lay down my life."
"I'll say what's true even if it cuts like a knife."

It is not hearts and rainbows
It is steadfast in the highs and lows.
So before you give your heart away
Remember what I say.

Be careful what road you choose.
Sometimes in order to find true love
You must be willing to lose
Your way, your control, your pride.
You must not hide.

Let go of all your know
And you will grow.
Choose a different way
and Christ, who is your life,
Will tell you what to say.

Single Minded Heart

Walking down the aisle
Is kind of style
Slowly everyone I know
Is attending the show.

Will I ever get the chance
To do the first dance?
I want to dress all in white
And be a pretty sight.


I'm tempted not to try
Because I feel shy
What if my heart is broken and I cry
What if his love is a lie.

Will i ever find "the one"
Will I have lots of fun?
I don't know the questions to these thoughts

Just beyond the river bend
I don’t know what God will send.
Will I ever find the music to my song?
Will I ever know where I belong?

Even when I don’t see His plan,
I trust His hand.
He has always shown me where to go
That truth I know.

I will go to the bad part of town
I will lay it all down
For the joy of a crown.

When I don’t know what to do,
Lord I’ll trust you.
When I don’t know to say
All I ccan do is pray.

I’ll stay single and never marry
If this is the cross you want me to carry

Confused

I have been at war

I Haven't Forgotten

I don’t like where I am today

Today you may feel defeated

Remember that God has already paid the cost.

My Passion

Oh yes, very icky.

A Giving God

Is it true You own the cattle on a thousand hills?
Will I really be able to pay all the bills?
SometimesI am tempted to commit a crime
To just earn one more dime.

Then I hear You say
In a most powerful way:

“Instead of commiting a crime
Just give me your dime.
Right before Your eyes I’ll make it multiply
You will have no reason to cry.

I tell you what I’ll do
I’ll make your wildest dreams come true.
I want to do this for you
That is how much I love you.”

I Lay It All Down

I want to be there
And not here.
Do you care?
Do you hear?

Sometimes I think I am going to sob
Because I want a job.
I want to drive
And not be stuck in this bee hive.

You are the queen bee

No matter what I do

I know I am His.

A True Friend

Fragile Child

I know you are a fragile child.
I know it is easy to make you cry
Even if you don’t know why.

I know it is easy to make tears run down your face
And you often feel out of place.

But there is something I want to give you
It will make you new.

More Powerful Than I

I am so dehydrated I can barely stand
And then comes a cloud the size of a hand.
You think I would be grateful
But instead I am hateful.

It just can’t rain.
I angrily complain.
My worst fear
Is coming near.

The drops fall
And I no longer feel tall.
As I look bitterly at the sky
I am reminded that someone is stronger than I
And that makes me cry.

I want to be the best
Far above the rest,
But I have to say
God did not make me that way.

Without rain the ground becomes dry
And plants slowly die.
But why? I say.
Why does it have to be that way?

God says,
“Some things are too heavy for you to know.
Sometimes you have to let go.”

2009 and the State of My Heart

Sometimes I trust money more than you
I’m so ashamed to say it’s true.
I forget that You can provide
And I hide.

I hide from your arms of love
I hide from those I know
I’m so afraid to show
What I’m really made of.

Dirt and water
Oh father
You made this body out of nothing,
Then why do I value worthless idols?

Why don’t I trust you?
Because You’ve always come through.
I have countless stories
Of how you have sent the stranger
To help me not to worry
Just like you sent the manger.

Oh Father, may I worship You
Like I want to.
You have been so very good
And one thing I know
I don’t deserve it.

My faith is very weak.
I have yet to develop the confidence I seek
So I’m chasing forward towards the kingdom.
I’m running towards freedom.
Capture my heart again
Show me what holds real value.

Snow

The snow comes down,
And falls to the ground.
It is so white,
And so bright.

God makes my heart as while as snow
This fact I know.
It is fun to sled
And get hit in the head.

I love to watch it fall
It reminds me of God’s call.
I need to be pure white
In a world as dark as night.

If You

If you hear someone cry,
Pray that their flesh would die.
If you hear someone complain,
Pray that My joy would reign.
If you see a smile on someone’s face
It means that I have given them extra grace.

Here I Stand

I sit in this chair
In the middle of nowhere.
I sit here
Controlled by fear.

You looked at me
My heart You could see.
You told me to stand
I did not want to obey this command.

All eyes fell upon me
As you said, “Don’t you see?”
If you obey,
Nothing can get in your way.

Another Prayer

I have written many poems about You
But none of them can describe all You do.
I have searched near and far
To find out who You are.

I have heard You whisper in my ear
And make Your plan clear.
But my mind cannot always understand
Everything You say
One thing is for sure—You always make a way.

I forget that You hold the world in Your hand
You made a way through the Read Sea
I know You can help me.

Fear is not welcome here.
Please make it disappear.
I refuse to accept confusion
Get rid of this bad illusion.

I See His Face

I see His face
While I’m running this race.
He said He would never let me fall
So I must stand tall.

I see His face
He is giving me grace.
His face is kind of blurry
But I must not worry.

I see His face
His tears are all over the place.
He is crying for me.
He hurts with me.

He is talking with me.
He whispers, “Keep running
There is something I want you to see.”
I have no idea what this may be.

I walk down the streets of gold
And low and behold,
He is holding a crown.
I fall to the ground.

He smiles as He lifts me up.
He points to a crowd and says,
“These people are here because
you did not give up.”

Snow

Talents

I wish I could swim like a fish,
But God did not grant me that wish.

That may not come true.

Jesus has great things for you.

Goodbye

You may not know,
I tried not to let it show,
But when I said, “Goodbye”
I was about to cry.

I held my teddy bear tight
For I was filled with fright.
Jesus calmed my fears
And wiped away my tears.

The Lord gave me grace
And put a smile on my face.
He brought me to this place
And I continue to seek His face.

Arkansas is a great state,
But Mississippi is first rate.
The hills here are beautiful to see,
But I will always remember Mississippi.

My Brother

I know someone who can make me smile
And teach me about God’s love all the while.
He can not talk,
But his smile says enough.

He can not walk,
And his life has been rough.
He has taught me to see
Others have trials
Not just me.

As I travel many miles,
I don’t forget his smiles.
In heaven he will walk
And he will talk.

People will finally understand
Jesus’s second greatest command.
They will love the disabled
As if they were abled.

Let All the Children Come to Me

Even if they cannot see
Let them come to Me.
You are more blind than they,
For you do not understand what I say.
I am not like the earth,
For I see their worth.
I died for them too,
Not just for you.
Love them as I do.
I will be with you.
Do not be afraid.
By Me they were made.

God Says

Look into my eyes
And know that I am wise.
Look at my hair
And know that I care.

Listen to me with your ears
And I will wash away your fears.
Listen to my voice;
Now make the right choice.

Hold my hands
And obey my commands.
Follow My feet,
And your every need I will meet.

I Don't Deserve A Thing

I feel like I’m in a chicken coup,
For all I can eat is chicken soup.
Just give me some rest,
Then I can do my best.

What is right?
I’m looking with all my might
To find what is right
In His sight.

I try to catch the ball
But then I see it fall.
I try to jump high
And then I start to cry.

It was the Lord who died
Who am I to sigh?
The Lord is king;
I don’t deserve a thing.

A Kind and Good Savior

You died,
But they never cried.
You like to bless,
But they could care less.

You care,
But they never share.
You are King,
But you never received a ring.

Thank you for dying
People will be crying.
For you are the Savior
Even when we have a bad behavior.
